Man accused of breaking prevention of violence order
The first person in Northern Ireland to be handed a Violent Offences Prevention Order (VOPO) after punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach has been accused of breaching it.
Gary Woods (27), of Clarehill Park in Aghadowey near Coleraine, was released from jail in January 2.
But the father-of-five was considered so dangerous to women that he was given a VOPO. It bans him from entering a relationship without his violent history being revealed. Nor is he allowed to have any internet-capable device without telling the authorities.
Woods appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with failing to register such a device earlier this month.
He appeared via video link from Maghaberry Prison.
A bail application will be made at the High Court this week, his solicitor said.
The case was adjourned until Coleraine Magistrates Court on April 10.
