Man accused of trespass at airport is remanded

A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with going on to a restricted part of Belfast International Airport.

Aurelijus Kizelavicius (21), of Knocktornagh, Castleblayney, is alleged to have committed the offence on July 29 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

The charge states the accused "went with or without a vehicle, on to a part of a restricted zone of an aerodrome without the permission of the manager of the aerodrome, or a person acting on behalf of the manager or authority, and in accordance with any conditions subject to which that permission was for the time being granted"'.

He is further charged with assaulting a man occasioning him actual bodily harm and damaging a door at the airport on the same date.

The Lithuanian national nodded to confirm he understood the charges as a translator relayed the details to him.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear at Antrim Magistrates Court via video-link on September 6.
