A man and woman escaped injury after the front windscreen of their parked van was smashed in Newtownards.

It happened in the Ballyrainey Road area on Wednesday November 16.

At around 6.55pm police received a report of a front windscreen of a parked van being smashed.

A man and woman, both aged in their 50s, were in the van at the time but not injured.

Two men were later arrested. They remain in police custody.

Chief Inspector Gerry McGrath said: "The two men, both aged 45, were arrested in the Newtownards area shortly after 10.15pm on suspicion of criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and threats to kill. Both currently remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

"I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who knows anything about it, to contact Newtownards Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 994 of 16/11/16. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
