A 38-year-old man has been arrested by detectives investigating loyalist paramilitary activity in Carrickfergus.

He was detained in the town by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's reactive and organised crime branch and has been taken to Belfast for questioning.

Detective Inspector Heather Whoriskey said: "Officers carried out searches in the Castlemara area and another part of the town.

"A number of items have been removed for further examination.

"The 38-year-old suspect has been taken to a police station in Belfast for questioning."
