A man has been critically injured in an assault outside a north Belfast bar in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A man has been critically injured in an assault outside a north Belfast bar in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man, aged in his 40's, sustained head injuries in the assault, which happened on Flax Street around 5.25am.

A number of people were involved in the incident.

He was taken to hospital where he is said to be in a critical but stable condition

Detective Inspector Heather Whoriskey has appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault and who has any information which may be of assistance to the investigation to contact detecives in Musgrave on 101 quoting reference 335 17/07/16.
