Man attacked in car hijack bid

A man has been punched several times during an attempted hijacking in west Belfast.

He was attacked while trying to chase off two men and a woman who tried to stop and steal his car just before 7am.

The incident happened at Norfolk Parade which is close to where greengrocer Harry Holland was stabbed to death in 2007 during a struggle with car thieves.

It is understood a woman approached the passenger's door and tried to open it. The driver got out and tried to chase them off but was punched several times by another man.

All three fled from the scene in a silver Toyota car driven by the woman. She is described as being in her 20s of slim build with shoulder length hair and was wearing a navy tracksuit.

One of the men was described as well built and about 5ft 9ins tall with ginger hair.

A police spokeswoman appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
