Man attacked with hammer during Co Down robbery

A man has been attacked with a hammer during a robbery in Co Down.

The assault happened in the Market Street area of Downpatrick on Monday night.

At around 9pm a man was set upon by two attackers who pushed him to the ground where they kicked and punched him.

The victim was also hit with a hammer.

The pair made off with a sum of cash.

Both are said to be in their early 20s, around 5' 7" in height and wearing dark clothing and trainers.

Their victim was treated in hospital for injuries not thought to be life threatening.
