Man bailed on child porn charges

By Alan Erwin

A Belfast man is to stand trial accused of a catalogue of child porn offences, a judge has ruled.

James Strain (60) faces 15 counts of making indecent images of a child, and a further three counts each of distributing indecent photographs and possession of extreme pornographic images.

The alleged offences were committed between January 2009 and June 2011. Strain, of Parklands, Belfast, appeared before the city's Magistrates Court for a preliminary inquiry to establish whether he has a case to answer.

In the dock, the accused nodded to confirm he understood the charges against him.

District Judge Mark Hamill granted a prosecution application to have Strain returned for Crown Court trial on a date to be fixed and he was released on bail until those proceedings begin.
