Man beat and kicked partner, court told
A man allegedly beat and kicked his partner after discovering she wanted to visit her mother in England, the High Court has heard.
John Maughan is also accused of inflicting burn marks on her during a separate row.
The 23-year-old, of Boygham Farm, Kiladeas, Co Fermanagh, faces two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
During a hearing to vary his bail conditions, a judge was told he and his partner are both members of the Travelling community.
Nicola Auret, prosecuting, said it was alleged Maughan kicked his partner to the side of the neck and punched her around the head.
Maughan also allegedly attacked his partner a week earlier, causing her to fall on a heater, inflicting burns to her shoulder.
The accused was previously granted bail on condition that he provide a £5,000 cash surety.
His barrister, Michael Boyd, argued it was an excessive demand.
Mr Justice Stephens agreed to remove the cash surety so that Maughan could be bailed, adding: "I'm informed there is no risk to the injured party as she presently resides in England."
