A man in his 20s is being treated in hospital after being beaten with hammers and a hatchet.

He also suffered puncture wounds to his limbs when he was dragged from his flat and attacked by a gang of masked men. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said they were called to the property at Adelaide Avenue, Whitehead, Co Antrim at about 11.30pm last night.

Detective Sergeant John McKendry has appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to make contact on the non emergency 101 number.
