A man has been charged with a dangerous driving in connection with a car being driven in the wrong direction along the M1 motorway.

The 45-year-old has also be charged with driving with excess alcohol.

He is due to appear in Dungannon Magistrates Court on October 16. As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The charges relate to a report of a car being driven in the wrong direction between the junctions of Dungannon and Tamnamore on Sunday at 6am.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the black Hyundai vehicle travelling along the country-bound section of the motorway.

They are particularly keen to hear from the driver of a white box lorry that was driving on the city-bound carriageway around the time.

Police can be contacted in Banbridge on 101, quoting reference: 417 200915.
