Man 'critical' after Derry assault

A man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Londonderry.

It happened during the early hours of Sunday September 11.

At around 12.45am it was reported that a man, aged in his 20s, had been assaulted in Waterloo Street.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical.

 A 22-year-old man was arrested a short time later and is currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Detective Constable Stephen Riddell said: “We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact Detectives at Strand Road Station on 101 quoting reference number 78 of 11/09/16.
