Man denies assaulting pensioner and grandson
A man is to stand trial at the crown court in Londonderry on charges linked to an assault on a 71-year-old woman and her teenage grandson in their home near Magherafelt last year.
Michael Mongan (22) from White Rise in Belfast denies assaulting Philip Convery (16). He also denies assaulting Philip's grandmother Teresa Convery and uncle Martin Convery. The assaults are alleged to have taken place in the Convery home at Mayogall Road on June 5.
He denies further charges of attempting to steal £10,000 in cash from the home, aggravated burglary with intent to rob, possessing an iron bar and driving while disqualified.
The defendant, who has been in custody since his arrest last June, replied not guilty to all the charges at his arraignment yesterday. His trial has been provisionally fixed for May 8 and he was remanded in continuing custody until that date.
