A man in his 50s has died in a house fire in Co Down.

The victim was found in the bedroom of the house at Islandmoyle Road, Cabra, Rathfriland just before midday.

Firefighters in two appliances were called to the scene after neighbours raised the alarm.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Two Appliances from Rathfriland f ire station attended the incident.

"A small fire in the bedroom had burnt itself out. No action was taken by firefighters.

"Neighbours arriving at the property raised the alarm."

The fire service said early indications suggested the fire was accidental. It was not known if the house had been fitted with a working smoke alarm.
