Man dies in suspected hit-and-run

A pedestrian was knocked down and killed by a suspected hit-and-run driver in Co Fermanagh early today.

The man, aged 49, was struck outside Belleek at Tullychurry Road, Leggs, not far from Boa Island.

He was the second man to die on Northern Ireland's roads in 48 hours.

The driver of a Jaguar car, involved in a three-vehicle collision between Newtownstewart and Victoria Bridge, Co Tyrone, was the first fatality of 2014.

Police investigating the death in Fermanagh said the man was struck by a car which failed to stop just before 3am.

A spokesman said investigating officers were now trying to trace a damaged blue Ford Focus.
