A man was lucky to escape uninjured after shots were fired at a house in Cookstown.

A shotgun was used to fire two shots through a living room window at a property in the Tullyveagh Road area early on Tuesday, police said.

A 45-year-old man was in the house at the time of the attack but escaped unharmed.

Detective Constable Paula McGale appealed for anyone with information on the shooting to contact the PSNI.

Sinn Fein Mid Ulster Assembly Member Michelle O'Neill said: "The gun attack on a house in the Tullyveagh Road area of Cookstown was wrong and I condemn it.

"Thankfully, no one was injured in this attack, but those responsible showed absolutely no regard for the occupants of the house or those living nearby."

It is understood that police have yet to establish a motive.
