A 37-year-old Lithuanian man is facing a substantial jail term for pouring scalding water over his former partner as she lay sleeping.
Mindaugas Martinaitis was to have gone on trial charged with holding his former Latvian partner Inga Lumpina captive in the home they shared at Knockmolyle Grove, Omagh.
He was also to face charges of unlawfully and maliciously causing her grievous bodily harm with intent.
However, the charges were ‘left on the books' after he pleaded guilty, through an interpreter, at Omagh Crown Court to the lesser charge of causing her grievous bodly harm between March 19 and 27 last year.
Judge Jeffrey Miller QC yesterday warned Martinaitis, who may also face deportation, that he is facing a lengthy sentence.
