Man facing prison over puppy cruelty
Shocking CCTV footage which showed a man dragging his terrier puppy around a shop on its lead and then across a road outside was shown at a court yesterday.
Londonderry District Judge Barney McElholm said the footage was so serious that an immediate custodial sentence in the case was "a very likely possibility".
The case involves Patrick Collins (40), from Lower Nassau Street in the Rosemount area of Derry.
He has pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the puppy and failing to take reasonable steps to ensure the needs of the puppy, which has recovered.
He committed the offences inside and outside the Spar Shop at Park Avenue, near his home, on August 1 of last year.
Sentencing was adjourned until February 10.
