Man headbutted sister at party
A Londonderry man has received a suspended prison sentence for headbutting his sister at a family gathering.
Gordon Armstrong (32), of Stevenson Park, admitted the assault on June 19.
Derry Magistrates Court heard that a disagreement had broken out between Armstrong and his sister at a family gathering.
The court was told the woman left the party and Armstrong followed her “roaring and shouting”.
He then grabbed her by the throat, punched her in the face and then headbutted her, leaving her with bruising.
A defence solicitor said his client was at a loss to explain why he had behaved as he did.
The solicitor said that while he was not reconciled with his sister, “he bore her no ill will”.
Deputy District Judge Brian Archer said there was “absolutely no justification” for what Armstrong had done and said it was a “cowardly act” that was “indefensible”.
Armstrong was sentenced to three months in prison suspended for two years and ordered to pay £300 in compensation.
