Man held after attack on woman and ambulance crew

A man has been arrested after he assaulted a woman, smashed an ambulance windscreen and damaged a defibrillator.

At around 6.50am on Sunday, police received a report from the Ambulance Service that a man had assaulted them and damaged an ambulance in the Knockleigh Drive area of Greenisland, Co Antrim.

The man had previously assaulted a woman, aged in her 30s, and went on to assault two members of the ambulance crew.

He also caused damage to the ambulance, including smashing a windscreen and damaging to a defibrillator.

The man has been held on suspicion of possession of a class C controlled drug, two counts of criminal damage and three counts of common assault.

He remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
