Detectives have arrested a 57-year-old man following the attempted murder of husband-and-wife PSNI officers in Eglinton last week.

The arrest, in the Lurgan area, is the fifth after a bomb was placed under a car belonging to the one of the officers.

His wife looked out of the bedroom window at 2.45am and saw the bomber lying on the ground at the side of her husband's car.

After banging on the window, the man ran off and the alarm was raised.

Three men arrested by the Garda's Northern Regional Support Unit in Killygordon, Co Donegal, last Thursday were released without charge. A fourth man, aged 27, who lives in the Eglinton area was arrested last Thursday evening. He was also released without charge.

The 57-year-old was released on Wednesday June 24 unconditionally.
