A 46-year-old man has been arrested in Northern Ireland in connection with a suspected gangland shooting at a north Dublin boxing weigh-in.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said he was detained in Strabane, Co Tyrone, under a European Arrest Warrant held by authorities in the Republic, on suspicion of murder and firearms offences.

He is expected to appear at Belfast Recorder's Court on Tuesday.

The arrest warrant is linked to an investigation into a fatal shooting at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in February, the PSNI said.

David Byrne, 33, was gunned down and two others were injured during the attack which has been linked to a bloody feud between the Kinahan and Hutch gangs in Dublin.
