A district judge was told yesterday that almost five kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of £25,000 was found by police in a car in Limavady on Sunday after the driver was stopped on suspicion of speeding.
Following his arrest, Conor Devine (24), from Delwood Park in Eglinton, appeared before the Magistrates Court in Londonderry charged with possessing the cannabis and possessing the drug with intent to supply it.
A police officer told District Judge Mervyn Bates that officers on mobile patrol followed the car from the outskirts of Limavady to Killane Road on suspicion it was being driven at excessive speed.
The officers stopped and searched the car and found the cannabis in a bag on the back seat.
The police said after his arrest the defendant said he had been asked to drive to Coleraine and collect the drugs from a number of individuals there. “He has made full admissions in relation to the charges,” the officer said.
The man was released on his own bail of £500 and is due again in court on December 5.
