Man in the dock over explosives find in Derry
A 30-year-old Londonderry man has been remanded in custody on charges connected to the discovery of explosives by police in the city earlier this week.
A detective constable from the PSNI told a court he believed he could connect the accused with the discovery of several explosive devices found in a vacant first-storey flat at Maureen Avenue, close to Derry city centre, on Monday evening.
Anthony Thomas Friel, from Gartan Square in the Bogside area of the city, was arrested at the scene.
He's charged with the possession of three improvised explosive devices, three timer power units, one 60-minute timer, one 120-minute timer, four six-volt batteries and one 12-volt battery with intent to endanger life or cause damage to property.
The accused man was remanded in custody to appear for a video-link hearing at the same Magistrates Court on |June 7.
