A man has been treated for breathing in smoke after attempting to extinguish a malicious fire in Killyleagh, Co Down.

Detective Inspector Denise Graham said the rear door of a house in Castle Gardens was set alight at around 3.20am yesterday.

The door was destroyed while the inside of the property sustained smoke damage.

It is understood the house is currently unoccupied. A neighbouring house was also smoke-damaged by the blaze.

The 20-year-old was treated after attempting to put out the fire before the arrival of the Fire Service.
