Man jailed for abuse of teenagers

A man convicted of indecently assaulting two teenage girls he worked with has been jailed for six months.

Shakir Raza (36), whose address was given as Donegall Street, Belfast, but who previously lived at Hazeldene Drive in Coleraine, lodged an appeal and was freed on his own bail of £400 at Coleraine Magistrates Court.

Raza contested charges of indecently assaulting a female child but was found guilty at an earlier sitting.

Raza, a father-of-two from Pakistan who met his wife here, was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for the next seven years.

Judge Mateer said two young girls embarking on the world of employment have been “severely adversely affected” by Raza.

Mr Raza's convictions were overturned on appeal on July 4, 2012. He was, accordingly, no longer required to sign the Sex Offenders' Register as of that date.
