A man has died in a road crash in Co Down.

The accident happened shortly before 6.30am on the Killowen Road between Kilkeel and Rostrever.

Two other men have been taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Sinn Fein MLA Caitriona Ruane said: " There is a sense of shock at the news that a man has died and others injured in a road traffic accident while travelling to work.

"This is the latest in a line of tragedies on South Down roads over the past year and the local community are devastated by this news.

"I offer my sincere condolences to the family of the man and I hope that those injured make a full and speedy recovery."

The Killowen Road remains closed.
