Man lifted TV and fled store, court hears
A man accused of stealing a TV threw it away as staff gave chase – and then claimed he was giving it back, the High Court has heard.
Garth Ferguson's own barrister told a judge: "Quite frankly, he's not very good at stealing things because he keeps getting caught."
At first Ferguson claimed his actions meant he had not stolen from a Currys store in Coleraine.
The 29-year-old has since admitted a charge of theft over the incident last week, a judge heard.
Ferguson, of Ballyness Park, Coleraine, was granted bail but banned from Riverside Retail Park in the town.
The court heard that a man went into Currys on March 18, lifted a boxed TV and fled.
A member of staff gave chase and was about to catch him when the thief threw the set away and escaped.
Ferguson was arrested in a nearby area minutes later.
Granting bail, Mr Justice Treacy also ordered Ferguson to attend his GP for medical help.
