The last man to see two friends alive before they were brutally murdered before Christmas has revealed how one of them had been given the all clear from cancer just days before they died.
The tragic killings of Caron Smyth and Finbar McGrillen sent shockwaves throughout south Belfast when their bodies were discovered at Ravenhill Court.
Kevin McNally, who met the friends through one of the men accused of slaying them, said Mr McGrillen had been recovering well after undergoing major surgery, weeks before his murder.
"Finbar had been left with a massive horseshoe scar running round his rib cage on to his back but he'd just got the all-clear," he said. "He had rosy cheeks and he was putting on weight again, he was doing good.
"I had to take my hat off to him after everything he had been through with cancer."
