Man punched in the head during struggle with thief on Ballyclare street

A man has been punched in the head during a struggle with a thief on a street in Ballyclare.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery in the Mill Road area on Monday August 10.

Shortly before 6.25pm it was reported that a man, aged in his 40s was walking in the area when he was approached by an unknown male who asked him for money.

The man refused and a struggle ensued.

The suspect punched the man to the head before making off with a sum of cash.

The man suffered swelling to the side of his face as a result.

The suspect is described as being tall, with short black hair and wearing glasses. He was wearing a red coloured coat and blue jeans.

Inspector Stephen McGuigan is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that could assist the police investigation to contact officers at Newtownabbey Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
