A 19-year-old man has been rescued from a cave in Portrush.

The man got into difficulty after he went to explore the cave and fell - as he did so he dislodged a large boulder which is estimated to weight more than one tonne.

The Belfast Coastguard received the 999 call after 10pm on Monday evening to the report that a man was stuck in the cave at the White Rocks coastal cliffs.

The Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard were sent to the scene to commence a rope rescue - the Inshore Life Boat was also on standby.

The victim suffered a minor leg injury and received first aid at the scene by the Coastguard Rope Rescue Technician who scaled down the cliff to rescue him.

He was hauled to safety before taking himself to hospital.
