Man rescued from Newcastle flat fire - property 'substantially damaged'
A man aged in his 30s had to be rescued from his home after an early morning fire broke out at a block of Newcastle flats.
Fire broke out at the two storey block on the Burrendale Park Road property of four flats at around 3.40am on Thursday.
The man was pulled from his two-storey home out the window by firefighters on a ladder.
Police said the property was "significant damaged," although there were no reports of any injuries.
The fire service sent five appliances and a support service. It appears to have started at an oil tank before spreading to a garage before hitting the flats.
Police are working to establish a cause and have appealed for anyone who may have information to contact investigating officers.
