An alleged serial burglar has appeared in court accused of stealing 11 cars in the course of a dozen separate break-ins.

Ciaran Sean McGuigan (22) is also charged with stealing a bicycle, fire brigade medals and electrical items from the homes.

The raids took place over four-months at houses in Belfast, Crumlin, Holywood, Hillsborough, Portadown and Lurgan.

McGuigan, whose address was given as HMP Maghaberry, faces a total of 14 charges.

At one home both a Saab 95 and a Kia Rio were taken, and during a raid at another home McGuigan is alleged to have taken an Audi Avant and a Kia Sportage.

Other charges involve the thefts of cash, a mobile phone, bike and a Bosch power drill.

All of the alleged offences occurred between June 13 and October 30 last year.

A detective told Belfast Magistrates Court that he could connect McGuigan to the charges.

No application for bail was made and District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded the accused in custody to appear by video-link on May 22.
