Man suffers serious head injuries after being beaten with bats in paramilitary attack: Two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was savagely beaten with baseball bats in a paramilitary-style attack in Larne.

He was assaulted by two men in broad daylight in the Shanlea Drive area at around 12.40pm on Friday.

The victim - who is in his 20s - suffered serious head injuries after he was beaten with baseball bats.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police arrested two men in the area around an hour after the attack.

Both remain in custody.

PSNI chief inspector Stephen McCauley said:

"Our officers were called to the area following an attack on a man at around 12.40pm this afternoon.

"The man is reported to have been beaten with baseball bats and sustained serious head injuries as a result.

The man, aged in his twenties, has been taken to hospital for treatment. At this point in time, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"Police officers arrested two men in the Larne area around one hour after the attack was reported. Both men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and are being questioned by detectives at present."
