Mandelson tells of fears for economy
Former Secretary of State Lord Mandelson says a Brexit would wreck the local economy.
Writing in today's Belfast Telegraph, Lord Mandelson said the EU had been of enormous benefit to the UK and Ireland and had played its part in helping bring the violence of the Troubles to and end. He said the economic impact of leaving the EU would hurt more here than in any other part of the UK.
"Socially and economically Northern Ireland has made huge progress in recent years and in many ways it has been transformed, but still it remains economically vulnerable," he writes.
"It would be a matter of huge regret to see a vote for Brexit exploit that vulnerability and, as a consequence, Northern Ireland fall well short of its future economic potential."
