Man's ear bitten off during attack

A man in his 20s has had his ear bitten off during an attack at a Belfast park.

The victim also suffered facial injuries in the altercation at the Waterworks off the Antrim Road on Wednesday morning. He was taken to hospital for treatment just before 10am.

Three people - two men aged 23 and 24, and a 26-year-old woman - have been arrested.

A spokesman for the PSNI said investigations into the assault were ongoing.

Gerry McCabe, Sinn Fein councillor for Oldpark in north Belfast, said the attack had caused serious concern.

"This disgraceful violence in the Waterworks park in north Belfast was very distressing for local people using this popular facility.

"Initial reports of this being a sectarian incident have proved to be wrong and we now understand that the incident involved people drinking in the park."

Mr McCabe called for the PSNI to do more to make park facilities safer.
