Man's face slashed in Derry hatchet attack

A man has been slashed in the face in a hatchet attack in Londonderry.

It happened in the early hours of Thursday in the Chapel Road area of the city.

He was treated for cuts to his arm and face.

A 31-year-old has been arrested.

He is being questioned on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, aggravated burglary and common assault.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
