Martha is tuning up for music's World Cup in Brazil
The football World Cup may have just ended in Brazil, but for one talented Co Down musician the 'Music World Cup' – which is also being held in the south American country – is just getting under way.
Martha Guiney (20) from Glenn, near Newry, is off to Brazil this Friday with her flute and tin whistle to bring her Irish traditional music skills to an international audience.
She has been selected as one of only three out of 100 students at the Dundalk Institute of Technology to go to the International Society for Music Education's world conference in Porto Alegre, which was one of the venues for the recent football extravaganza.
Martha will join with students from Co Louth and Co Donegal to represent her university at the event known as the Music World Cup, and, she adds, "the whole of Ireland".
Martha said: "I am really looking forward to it and it is a great opportunity."
