A masked gang forced entry into a Belfast city centre flat and threatened a resident inside on Sunday.

Police are appealing for information following the aggravated burglary in the College Square North area.

Shortly after 11pm a group of men forced entry to premises and briefly confronted the resident before leaving again.

It is believed four men were involved, all of whom were wearing masks. Some were carrying weapons, including a baseball bat and a knife. The resident was not injured.

Detective Sergeant Mason, from Musgrave Reactive and Organised Crime, said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish a motive for this incident. I would appeal to anyone who either witnessed these men in the area, or who can provide information as their identities, to contact detectives at Musgrave quoting reference 1359 of 24th July.

"Alternatively, information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
