Masked men attack police patrol

A gang of up to 10 masked men has attacked a police patrol in Co Tyrone.

Two officers escaped injury when the men threw bricks at their car near Dungannon.

Paint was also thrown at the vehicle during the incident in Moygashel Court around 11pm last night.

The officers had been called out to the area - a call that later transpired to be a hoax.

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Inspector Keith Jamieson condemned the attack.

"The officers were extremely fortunate to have escaped without serious injury or worse," he said.

"The masonry thrown could easily have caused serious injury to the officers or members of the public."

The officer added: "I would appeal to the community of Moygashel to turn their backs on those who wish to conduct such criminal activity.

"I find it frustrating and disappointing that police were targeted in this way and I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident to contact police in Dungannon on the non-emergency number 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
