A gang of four masked men raided the east Belfast home of an elderly woman and searched her room as she lay in bed.

The woman was not physically injured in the terrifying ordeal, but was left badly shaken.

The men made their way into the Orangefield home by removing glass from a kitchen window before searching the property at around 9pm on Tuesday.

All four left a short time later. At this time, it is not believed that anything was taken.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact investigating officers.

Detective Sergeant Conor Sweeney said: "I appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime, Musgrave police station on the non-emergency number 101.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
