Mayor Arder Carson hails Belfast for its welcome to Syrian refugees
The Lord Mayor of Belfast has paid tribute to those welcoming Syrian refugees into the city in his New Year message.
Councillor Arder Carson thanked everyone who had helped following the refugees' recent arrival in Northern Ireland.
"As I wish residents across the city a peaceful and happy 2016, my thoughts turn to those who have taken refuge here," he said.
"Having taken 'Lord Mayor for Communities' as my theme for my term in office, I have been privileged to meet with and see at first hand the great work being done at a community level in all parts of Belfast.
"It fills me with pride to acknowledge how welcoming our city is and the incredible efforts by individuals and organisations to create a city for everyone."
He added: "I hope all who live here enjoy a peaceful and prosperous year ahead, and that all they wish for will come to pass in 2016. I know this great city will go from strength to strength."
