Michael Collins’s gun put on display in Belfast social club’s ‘museum’
A gun belonging to Michael Collins will be exhibited at an Irish history museum in the Roddy McCorley Society on the Glen Road in Belfast, the Andersonstown News reported.
The Webley revolver was given to musician Thomas Devlin in 1922 as a gift from the Irish revolutionary who is said to have had over 20 similar weapons in his possession.
Irish Memorbilia expert, Pat O’Hagan told the west Belfast paper that Collins ‘had a habit of giving the guns away’ as a gift when he was drunk and that it was not known if the gun had ever been fired.
The loan of the gun will add weight to the club’s existing collection or Irish artefacts which includes membership Fianna Eireann booklets.
