A major roads upgrade programme affecting an east Belfast street has been given the green light. The £180,000 carriageway and footway resurfacing scheme on a section of Mersey Street will begin next Monday.

The project, which covers work from Dee Street to Yukon Street is expected to be completed next January.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard said: "This significant investment of around £180,000 will greatly improve the surface quality of the footways and carriageway on this section of the road."

Local access for residents will be maintained at all times during the scheme. The dates of the road closures will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions.

Details will be advertised on the Trafficwatch NI website at www.trafficwatchni.com/home.
