Christy Moore is to perform for the Dalai Lama at an event in Derry next month.
The Tibetan spiritual leader will be a guest of local charity Children in Crossfire when he travels to Northern Ireland.
He is patron of the charitable organisation, which promotes childhood care and development in some of the poorest countries in the world.
He will be a celebrated attendee at an event called Culture of Compassion at the Vital Venue in Ebrington, Londonderry.
The gathering will see 2,500 people explore how the "global community" can become more compassionate and care for others and our planet.
As well as a performance from Christy Moore and an address from the Tibetan religious leader, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, violinist from The Frames, the Rainbow School of Dance, the Encore Contemporary Choir and The Longtower Folk Group will also be performing.
Christy Moore has a long-standing connection with Richard Moore, director of Children in Crossfire, and has recorded a song about him.
Richard Moore said: "We are delighted that Christy Moore has agreed to be part of our Culture of Compassion event. Christy is a fantastic ambassador for Irish music and indeed for a culture of compassion."
The folk singer said he was honoured. "His Holiness, the Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader who knows and understands the power of compassion, healing and forgiveness," he said.
"I am also delighted to be associated with such a wonderful organisation that is doing fantastic work helping vulnerable children in other parts of the world."
