A mother and child escaped injury after an arson attack on their next-door house in Lurgan.

A fire was started in the living room of the house some time around 9pm on Sunday in the Castle Lane Mews area of the Co Armagh town.

The property was significantly damaged, police said.

Detective Constable Lauren Edwards said: “A woman and a child in an adjoining property were able to leave their home safely while police and fire crews dealt with the incident.

"We are appealing for information regarding this crime and would be particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the area at around the time the fire was reported. The number to call is 101.”
