Murder bid probe: one man bailed, one released

Published 30/07/2011

Two men arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Londonderry man Paul McCauley have been released.

A 21-year-old was released yesterday on police bail pending further inquiries.

A 36-year-old, meanwhile, has been released unconditionally.

Both men were arrested in the city on Thursday.

Mr McCauley (34) has been left brain damaged since he was attacked by a gang in the Chapel Road area of Derry's Waterside on July 16, 2006.

The former civil servant is currently receiving 24-hour care at a nursing home in the city and remains in an almost vegetative state.
