Mystery over bomb bid on Maghera van

The father of a bomb attack victim says it is a mystery why his son was targeted.
Maghera man Niall Bradley noticed the remains of the “incendiary-type device” on the ground under his work van in the Willow Glynn district of the town as he went to work yesterday at around 8am.
The bomb is believed to have partially exploded around 3am.
A father-of-one, Mr Bradley had just left the family home he shares with his partner and child when the alert was raised.
Mr Bradley was too shaken to speak about the attack, but his father Jim, who is well-known in GAA circles, said he couldn’t understand why his son was targeted. He said: “Our problem is we have no idea why this has happened and who did it. If someone has a problem, they should let us know their reason and we could try and find some sort of solution and understanding as to why this happened. Niall said he heard a loud bang around 3am but he didn’t know what it was.”
Magherafelt Sinn Fein councillor Sean Kerr condemned those behind the attack. “People in this area are at a complete, absolute and total loss as to why this man was targeted.
“He comes from a respectable family and just goes about his business. If there is a reason for this, whoever did it should just come out and say what that reason is. The man wants to know what is behind this. If it’s a case of mistaken identity, then let this man know that through some means. I totally condemn this. There’s no place for these actions in today’s society.”
Magherafelt councillor Kate Lagan also condemned the bombing.
She said: “Whoever did this, for whatever reason, we need to get them off our streets. I urge anyone who can throw any light on this attack, who was around and may even have information without being aware of it, to contact the PSNI now.”
Police confirmed the Army bomb squad attended the scene of the explosion and removed the remains of the bomb for further examination.
A police spokeswoman said they believed the device was left under Mr Bradley’s van some time between midnight and 3am.
