National Trust confirms golf resort row resignation

Published 25/07/2012

The National Trust has confirmed the resignation of a key adviser over the charity’s decision to try and block a £100m golf resort.

Peter Dixon — who is also chief executive of Phoenix Gas — stepped down last week from his voluntary position on the National Trust’s Advisory Board.

Mr Dixon quit the post after the National Trust announced it was seeking a judicial review into the building of a golf development near the Giant’s Causeway.

The Runkerry resort was given the green light in February after 12 years of wrangling. Mr Dixon is said to be in favour of the golf resort on economic grounds.

In a statement yesterday, the trust said: “The trust is aware that he (Mr Dixon) could not support its position relating to the Runkerry Resort development.”
