Navy frigate to dock in Belfast

One of the Royal Navy's biggest warships is expected to sail into Belfast tomorrow.

HMS Portland, a Type 23 frigate, will dock at Belfast Harbour for five days.

Commanding officer Sarah West said: "I am delighted that HMS Portland is able to visit Belfast.

"The city is a popular destination with the Royal Navy due to the hospitality of the people and the range of activities available. My ship's company are excited about the visit."

The 436ft ship, which recently underwent a multimillion-pound upgrade is part of a major armed forces exhibition at Kinnegar Logistics Base in nearby Holywood, Co Down.

Visitors to the show will be given the opportunity to meet those serving on board the ship.
